It took 37 years to complete the building of the State Capital. Its architecture is beautiful. However, I think the best part of the building is the artwork inside. John Steuart Curry was commissioned to create a mural for the capital. His Mural “Tragic Prelude” is beautiful and haunting all at the same time. The main character you first see is John Brown. You will see that he painted John Brown holding a Sharps rifle in one hand and a Bible in the other. Confederate and Union dead, a tornado, pioneers, and many other symbolism’s that tell the history of Kansas. As you move throughout the Capital take in all the other artwork and murals. They have wonderful stories behind them. As for a guided tour. It is well worth it.
