Proudly called the First Town in the First State. Lewes (Pronounced Louis) was settled in 1631 by the Dutch. The settlement was wiped out by the Native Americans in the area. There have been Mennonites, English and more Dutch over the years trying to establish the area. Lewes has a very interesting history. Today it is a quaint seaside town. St. Peter’s Episcopal church should be on your list to stop. There are lots of great restaurants and quaint shops. Driving around the town you can find interesting architecture in the houses. We had dinner at the Wheelhouse so that we could sit outside and watch the boats. Food was fantastic.
