This is part of Kansas History that many do not know about. Before the Civil War, the Bleeding Kansas era was in full swing. May 19th, 1858 Proslavery men from Missouri rounded up eleven men from Trading Post. They took these men to a ravine and shot them. Five men were killed, Five wounded, and one escaped unharmed. This guerrilla warfare was just a small piece of what was to come in Kansas.

The Site has a re-constructed cabin that John Brown built. You may walk the grounds and there is a driving tour with signs to tell the story of this Kansas Territory and the massacre. It is a beautiful are in which to bring a picnic lunch. You are asked to take out what you bring in.
