My favorite Battlefield…. Probably because I have worked here as the Site-Administrator for five years. Now I help plan events and fill in on occasion. If you are a Civil War Buff you must add this to your list of Battlefields to see.

The Battle of Mine Creek was the second largest Cavalry Battle of the Civil War. Second only to the Battle of Brandy Station. Both of these engagements were led by Alfred Pleasonton. This is a State Park and run by the Kansas Historical Society. Unlike many Battlefields you will find only one monument to the Confederate dead. The battlefield is pristine and there are wonderful mowed walking trails throughout with markers letting you know what happened at specific locations. The visitor center and museum have many artifacts and a knowledgeable staff. There is a great video presentation to watch that explains the battle. They also have a nice gift shop. There are events throughout the year.
